What is a Botox treatment?

Botox is a non-surgical, injectable treatment that helps to eradicate lines and wrinkles. It is one of the most common and popular cosmetic procedure in world. It is used to medically treat certain muscular condition and cosmetically removing wrinkles.

 

How does the Botox treatment works?

Botox is a neuromodulator that is injected into the targeted area using a very ultra-fine needle.  It works by blocking the nerve signals that is needed for the facial muscles to contract.  It is the repeated contraction of facial muscle that causes your skin to cause expression lines and wrinkles. So once the neuromodulator is injected it helps in relaxing the muscle and by decreasing the movement of facial muscle to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles in the desired area. The result for this won’t happen suddenly but will happen within a course of 3-7 days of injecting.

 

What areas are being treated by Botox treatment?

Botox are used to address the lines and wrinkles on a various number of facial areas. It includes the forehead, your eye area also known as crow’s feet, and the lip lines.  It may be injected also to soften dimpling of the chin. It also has other uses like it can be injected into the muscle of jaw to help you to alleviate pain from teeth grinding or TMJ pain. For medical uses it might also be used in preventing chronic migraine headaches, excessively sweaty armpits-palms and feet. It can even be used in alleviating knee pain that might have been caused due to osteoarthritis

 

How long does the Botox injection takes to work?

Getting a Botox therapy is rather easy process which doesn’t even require anesthesia and it usually takes 15-20 minutes and you may get back to your normal activities after that. Results will be noticeable on your face after 24 hours. It usually takes a week or two to have its full effect on the applied area. If you are taking alcohol it’s better to avoid it at least one week before the treatment.

 

What are the risks from this treatment that someone can face?

Temporary bruising, swelling or pain at the injected site are the most common side effect of Botox. Then there might be some slight headache which will resolve within 24 hours. Even sometimes the patient might feel some eyelid drooping and it will resolve within 1-2 weeks. This usually happens when the Botox moves around so it is advised very strictly that you shouldn’t rub the treated area for at least 12 hours after the injection and try not to sleep or lay down for at least 3-4 hours after treatment. Also if u has some pre-existing problems like in swallowing, speaking or breathing then you can be at higher risks.

 

Who should not receive Botox?

Any patient who is pregnant, breast feeding or have any neurological disorder should not get Botox treatment done. Since Botox doesn’t work on all types of wrinkles, so a consultation with a proper specialist is highly recommended before the treatment.

 

At what age should anyone use a Botox?

Mostly people start getting treatment by the age of 30. Some even in their mid-20.
